Overview of Services - Wood County Children’s Protective Services receives all reports of child abuse and neglect in the county, and investigates those reports in a timely manner. When necessary, Children’s Protective Services works with families to identify services and develops a case plan to reduce the risk of future abuse and neglect. In most cases the staff provides services to the child and family while the child remains in the home. However, there are instances where the child cannot remain safely in the home and it becomes necessary for a staff member to work with the local court system to remove the child from the situation and be placed in foster care. When the child is placed outside the home, Children’s Protective Services must develop a plan detailing what activities must occur to ensure the child is able to return home safely. If that is not possible, the plan will identify an alternative safe, stable, and permanent living situation that promotes the child’s health, growth, and development.
